Lawns Along the Pawtuxet Branches

Hydroseeding in West Warwick is shaped by the Pawtuxet River. The town sits on the river's western bank, and its north and south branches meet at River Point to form the main stem. Mill villages like Phenix, Lippitt, Arctic, Natick and Centerville grew along that water, and many homes still sit close to it.

After the 2010 flood

In 2010 heavy rain drove the Pawtuxet to about 21 feet, roughly 12 feet above flood stage, and much of the town flooded. Yards that took on water lost topsoil and seed, and some were regraded during repairs. If yours never came back right, we rebuild it: new topsoil, grading that moves water away from the house and a full hydroseed.

River banks

Banks along the branches erode when they are left bare. On a riverbank we use a biodegradable erosion control blanket staked in place, with seed sprayed over it, so roots can knit the soil before the next high water. Work right at the river may need state approval first.

Mill village yards

The town covers only about 7.9 square miles of land, and lots in the old villages are small. The Royal Mill complex has been converted to apartments, and conversions like that leave grounds that need new turf. Small yards are fast work with a hose from the street.

Soil under old mill ground

West Warwick was among the earliest textile mill areas in the country. Older parcels can hold fill from that era, so we check what is under the surface and bring in clean topsoil for lawn areas.

West Warwick Questions

My lawn never recovered after the flood. Can it be saved?

Usually yes. We replace lost topsoil, regrade and hydroseed the whole area.

How do you keep a riverbank from washing out?

A staked biodegradable blanket with seed holds the soil until roots take over.

Do you work in the mill-conversion complexes?

Yes, for property managers who need grounds seeded or repaired.

Will a flood ruin a new hydroseed lawn?

A big flood can wash out young seed. Established grass handles brief flooding far better, so earlier seeding helps.
