Lawns on Barrington's Low Plain
Hydroseeding in Barrington starts with understanding how flat and low the town is. Barrington is a mostly flat plain left by a melting glacier at the end of the last ice age, with elevations from sea level to about 49 feet. Its soils are layers of clay, gravel, sand and silt, so drainage can change from one end of a yard to the other.
Mixed glacial soils
Where clay is near the surface, water sits after a storm and grass roots stay shallow. Where sand or gravel shows up, lawns dry quickly. We look at the soil in several spots before seeding and adjust: topsoil and organic matter on the sandy parts, and grading for surface drainage on the clay.
Old clay pits and ponds
The Nayatt Brick Company, founded in 1847, dug clay near what is now Brickyard Pond until brickmaking ended by 1930. Brickyard Pond, Echo Lake and Volpe Pond are all man-made ponds from that era. Lots around them can have disturbed, uneven ground, and we fine grade before spraying so the finished lawn is smooth.
Coves and rivers
The town is two peninsulas separated by the Barrington and Warren Rivers, with Hundred Acre Cove and the Palmer River along New Meadow Neck. The 1938 hurricane did heavy damage to shoreline homes. Yards near the water need grass that handles occasional salt and soggy ground, and work near the shore may need sediment barriers.
Suburban yards
After the 1855 railroad and post-war growth, Barrington became largely suburban. Most of our work here is renovating established lawns, reseeding after drainage or septic work, and new lawns for rebuilt homes.

Barrington Questions
Water sits on my flat Barrington lawn. What helps?
A gentle regrade so water moves off the lawn, and sometimes a drain. Then we seed.
Part of my yard is sandy and part is clay. Can one seed mix work?
Usually, yes. We adjust the soil prep in each area rather than switching seed.
My house is near Brickyard Pond and the ground is lumpy. Can you smooth it?
Yes. We fine grade the yard before spraying so the lawn comes up level.
Do you overseed established lawns here?
Yes. Fall overseeding after aeration is one of our most common Barrington jobs.
