Working Between the Seekonk and the Bay

Hydroseeding in East Providence often happens within sight of water. The city lies between the Providence and Seekonk Rivers on its west side and borders Seekonk, Massachusetts, on the east, and roughly a fifth of its total area is water. River bluffs, shoreline parks and old industrial parcels sit next to tidy residential streets, so the work ranges from slope cover to standard front lawns.

River banks and shoreline parks

The East Bay Bike Path runs along the Narragansett Bay shoreline here, past Bold Point Park, Fort Hill and Squantum Woods Park. Private lots along the same shore have similar banks that slide when they are left bare. On those slopes we prefer an erosion control blanket under the hydroseed, or a bonded fiber matrix where the pitch allows it.

Ten Mile River mouth

The Ten Mile River ends in East Providence, flowing over the Omega Dam into the Seekonk River. The river was badly polluted in the mid-1900s and has been cleaned up since, though metals and sediments remain an issue. That history is a good reason to keep soil from a construction site out of storm drains and streams. Silt fence and sediment logs along the low side of a lot are inexpensive insurance.

Old mills and chemical works

The Rumford Chemical Works and the Richmond Paper Company mill complex are on the city's historic list. Redevelopment of former industrial ground usually comes with a soil management plan, and we seed only the clean cap material the plan specifies.

Residential neighborhoods

Historic plats like Rose Land Park and Elm Tree Plat have older homes with established yards. Our work there is mostly lawn repair after utility trenches, regrading low corners and overseeding thin turf.

East Providence Questions

Can hydroseed hold on a bank that drops toward the river?

On moderate slopes, yes, with a heavy mulch or bonded fiber matrix. Steeper banks get a blanket pinned underneath.

Will an addition close to the Ten Mile River need silt fence?

If bare soil can wash toward the river or a drain, it is a good idea and is often required. We can install it before digging starts.

Can you seed over a capped industrial site?

Yes, on the clean cap layer the site plan calls for. We do not disturb soil below the cap.

My lawn has a trench scar from utility work. Can you fix just that?

Yes. We settle and top off the trench, then seed it so it matches the lawn on either side.
